Most adults get only half the recommended amount of fiber. An average American eats only 10 grams of fiber per day. Fiber is an effective remedy to fight inflammation. Only plant foods have fiber - fruits, vegetables, legumes & grains. None of the animal products have any trace of fiber. Daily intake of fiber cuts down your risk of heart disease, hypertension, controls blood sugars in diabetes, helps lower cholesterol, & relieves constipation. Did you know that fiber also controls your weight?



People following the McDougall diet eat between 40 to 60 grams of fiber per day. Fibrous foods have zero cholesterol. According to Dr. McDougall there is 0.5% to 2% reduction in blood cholesterol for every gram of fiber consumed.

There are two types of fiber found in plants which are soluble & insoluble. Plant foods such as oats & beans/legumes have soluble fiber which lowers your bad cholesterol or LDL. Insoluble fiber is found in many types of whole grains such as wheat & beans.


Animal foods have no fiber & contain saturated fat

All animal foods are high in saturated fats & cholesterol. They also lack fiber. All dairy products, eggs, poultry, meat, most fish have no fiber & have lot of saturated fats.
